Why Do You Spell Magick with a “K”?

You may have noticed throughout Divine Truth Alchemy that I spell magick with a K. It is a small distinction, but an intentional one.

Within the Mystery School tradition, the K represents the Keys.

Imagine standing before a long corridor lined with doors. The doors are illuminated. You can see them. You may even sense that something important lies beyond them.

But seeing a door is not the same as possessing the key that opens it.

The ancient Mystery School traditions were built upon the understanding that certain teachings, rituals, and spiritual practices are not simply learned from a book. They are handed down through lineage—from teacher to student, generation after generation—along with the keys necessary to access and work with them.

This is one of the purposes of initiation.

Through initiation and oral tradition, the student receives not only knowledge, but the authority, energetic connection, and practical tools associated with that teaching. The door that was once merely visible can now be opened and experienced.

This is what I mean when I use the word magick.

It is not stage magic, illusion, or simply wishing for something to happen. Nor is it a collection of spiritual practices gathered together without context. Magick, as I have been taught it, is a structured system of working consciously with ourselves and with the forces of creation to bring about transformation.

The K is therefore a reminder:

Knowledge may illuminate the door.
Lineage hands us the Keys.
But we must choose to open it.

And ultimately, we must choose to walk through.
